Abstract

The study aims at analyzing Plestia Alaqad’s poem Only in Gaza through Teun A. van Dijk’s Socio-cognitive Approach to Critical Discourse Analysis, focusing on themes of defiance, replacement, and Tyranny. By exploring concepts of power, ideology, and mental representation, the study reveals how Alaqad's poetic discourse challenges the condemnation of Israeli actions and US validation in enabling the human rights violations. The analysis examines how expressive imagery and emotive language reflect the physical and psychological trauma of Palestinians while simultaneously highlighting their defiant resilience. Through a close reading of the poem, this research sheds light on how poetry can present as both an evidence to unveiling the reality and a call for global accountability in the face of political violence.
